Is it possible to be picky in this job climate?

I have recently come to the realization that it is not very fun to be jobless. Since I now have an ample amount of time on my hands, I thought it would be a good idea to put my efforts down in writing. Not only will it exercise my brain, but it is another medium in social networking that I can fine tune for a possible future career.

I am a relative "newbie" to the job force and already know what I never want to do again. After a position that involved no chance of growth and enforced unethical practices, I decided that it was time for me to be a little more picky in my job search. Life is way too short, after all. However, trying to find a job you actually like is not easy. Out of all the jobs that I have applied and interviewed for, there has been only a handful that I feel I would actually enjoy. What I want more than anything is a job that I wake up and WANT to go to.

The type of jobs that interests me and matches my background are Marketing/Communication Coordinator positions that engage in things such as behind the scene marketing campaigns, target market planning, and social media marketing. Individuals' perspectives and their decision-making intrigues me. I feel I have a natural ability to get into an consumer's head and predict what they will like and how they will react to a changing product, service, etc. I have a keen sense in what Canadians/Americans want out of goods and services and how to earn their loyalty and trust.

With the growth of websites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, there has been more companies hiring for such positions and targeting my generation. I have hope, but the jobs are few and far between due to the economic climate (especially in the area I live, Hamilton, Ontario).

It is my goal to match my passion of consumer marketing to my future career and I am going to work my heart out to achieve it.
